2006 India
India is a 
country filled with wealth, but also extreme poverty. The effects of globalization have catalyzed many industries, creating large pockets of wealth, and increasing job stability for some; yet, millions continue to live on less than one dollar a day. The streets of Calcutta are home to many of the latter. Education is the dream for many of these disenfranchised, but cultural and economic obstacles prevent many from achieving this dream. However, there are individuals who are determined to be agents of change and make it possible for these children to receive an education. Adventrek is proud to partner with an organization whose work specifically reaches out to the slum and street kids of India. By building free schools, medical centers, vocational training centers, and night shelters, these organizations are providing hope to India's youth.
On the 2006 India adventrek, we'll assist with the development work already going on - construction and painting projects, youth development programs, medical assistance, food and clothing distribution, and education. We'll also meet with innovative local leaders who are furthering India’s development goals. In addition, we'll have the opportunity to be submersed in a culture rich in tradition and history. On this adventrek, we'll travel to some amazing sites in India - including New Delhi and the Taj Mahal, one of the eight Wonders of the World.

(cost includes international airfare from Chicago O'Hare, domestic travel within India, all meals, housing, tourist activities in India. The price does not include required passport and visa fees, required immunizations, required medical travel insurance, souvenirs, or personal spending money.)
